We’ve been overwhelmed and excited by the popularity of Sweet Boutique’s cupcakes since we began stocking them earlier this month, so we thought it was time to share a bit more about these amazing creations – and their talented creator.
Who are you?
Grace Dowell (maiden name Bos). I’m 25 and married Tyran Dowell in October last year. We have two beautiful dogs Maya and Evie. I’m studying a Masters of Diagnostic Radiography at the University of Sydney. Tyran and I met in Ballarat when we were both studying our undergraduate bachelor degrees of Exercise and Sport Science.
Did you grow up in Camperdown?
No. I grew up on a ram stud farm near Horsham. We moved to Camperdown because Tyran grew up here and still has family here.
When did you start Sweet Boutique?
I started baking and decorating bits and pieces a couple of years ago, but didn’t officially start my business until January this year. It was my New Year’s resolution to make it happen in 2016.
What is your favourite cupcake to eat?
It’s so hard to choose, but I’d say the Nutella Ferrero Rocher. I’m always a sucker for Nutella and love a nice chocolate base.
What is your vision for this business?
My vision is to introduce people in the area to new, contemporary styles of cakes and treats and show them the art of cake decorating. I want to be a business that everyone is excited about and I want to provide people with good quality products that have been baked traditionally from scratch.
Any new flavours in the works?
Always! I love the excitement people have when I introduce a new flavour for them to taste. I also love hearing suggestions about what flavours people want me incorporate into a cupcake.
Do you bake just for yourself?
Growing up on a farm, mum always baked so I started baking for family and friends. I kept being told “you need to sell these” and that’s why I decided to start up a business. My husband enjoys being my taste tester!
